Total primary energy production in Africa 2021, by country
In 2021, Algeria was the largest primary energy producer in the African continent. As of the same year, the North African country's primary energy production amounted to 6.66 quadrillion British thermal units (Btu). South Africa, Nigeria, and Egypt followed at 5.3 quadrillion Btu, 5.15 quadrillion Btu, and 4.16 quadrillion Btu of primary energy produced, respectively. Libya and Angola ranked fifth and sixth, as the last countries in the continent with primary energy production higher than one quadrillion Btu, with 3.17 quadrillion Btu and 2.82 quadrillion Btu, respectively.
